A government guarantee program that compensates, on the state's behalf, traffic-accident victims who cannot get compensation from anywhere else - for example, when the at-fault vehicle in a hit-and-run cannot be identified, when the at-fault vehicle has no mandatory (liability) insurance, or when the accident involved a stolen or unauthorized-use vehicle. It is run by the Korea Motor Vehicle Damage Compensation Promotion Corporation under commission from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and pays compensation within set limits based on the degree of death, aftereffect disability, or injury. You can file a compensation claim through the Government Guarantee Program menu on the website; for compensation-related counseling call 1544-0049 (press 1), and for the Victim Direct Claim Support Center call 1566-8129.
